Footpaths & Side Access
Footpaths, side access paths and clean-ups, exposed aggregate or plain finish.
Footpaths and side access paths are the jobs that get put off for years, an old cracked slab, bare dirt, or gravel that turns to mud every winter, running down the side of the house to the backyard or bin store. We pour footpaths, garden paths, side access paths and general clean-up jobs across Perth, in plain or exposed aggregate finish, so that strip of the property stops being an afterthought.
Who it suits
Anyone with a dirt, gravel or badly cracked path down the side of the house, especially where it’s the main route to wheelie bins, a side gate, or the backyard. It also suits homeowners who’ve had a driveway or entry poured in exposed aggregate and want the side access to match, so the whole property reads as one consistent finish.
What CJH actually does
Free measure and quote first. Then:
- Site prep. Clearing whatever’s currently there, dirt, gravel, old broken concrete, and excavating to a proper base.
- Formwork. Set out along the path line, working around tight boundaries, taps, meter boxes and fences where needed.
- Reinforcement. Mesh or reo through the slab even on narrower paths, so it doesn’t crack along the edges.
- The pour. Plain or exposed aggregate blend from any supplier, poured to a consistent width and fall.
- The finish. Broom finish or washed-back exposed aggregate, matched to whatever’s already on the property if there’s a driveway or entry to tie into.
Where we’ve poured it
We finished a side access job in Quinns Rocks in exposed aggregate, tying the path in with the aggregate finish used elsewhere on the property. Narrow doesn’t mean lower standard, the same prep and reinforcement goes into a side access path as a full driveway.
What drives the price
As a Perth market guide, plain finishes generally sit around ~$70-$90/m2 and exposed aggregate around ~$100-$150/m2. Side access paths are usually smaller in total area than a driveway, but tight access for equipment can add to the job, so we measure and look at the site before quoting rather than pricing over the phone.

FAQ
Common questions.
What is side access concreting?
It's pouring a proper path down the side of the house, usually where there's a gate or gap between the house and boundary fence. A lot of these areas are dirt, gravel or old cracked slabs; we clean them up with a level, durable concrete path.
Can side access match the driveway finish?
Yes. If your driveway or entry is in an exposed aggregate blend, we can run the same finish down the side access so it reads as one continuous job rather than a mismatched add-on.
Is side access concrete narrow, does that change the price?
Narrow side access jobs are usually smaller in total area than a driveway, but tight access can add time, especially if we can't get a pump or truck close. We'll factor that into the quote after seeing the site.
How wide should a side access path be?
It depends on what you're using it for, wheelie bins, a mower, or general foot traffic all want slightly different widths. Tell us what the path needs to handle and we'll size it accordingly.
