Alfresco & Outdoor Areas

Alfresco slabs and outdoor entertaining areas, finished to match the house.

An alfresco or outdoor entertaining area only works if the concrete underneath it is right, level, well-finished, and durable enough to handle furniture, foot traffic and being outdoors year-round. We pour alfresco slabs and outdoor living areas across Perth’s northern suburbs, in plain and exposed aggregate finishes, built to extend the house outward properly rather than just filling in a gap under the patio roof.

Who it suits

Homeowners adding or replacing an alfresco slab, extending an existing patio area, or pouring a new outdoor entertaining space that needs to tie into the rest of the property. It also suits anyone finishing off a backyard renovation where the alfresco is the last piece, the shed’s in, the landscaping’s done, and the concrete needs to bring it together.

What CJH actually does

Free measure and quote first, so you know the cost before anything’s booked in. From there:

  • Site prep. Excavation and base compaction, with falls set so water drains away from the house rather than pooling under the roof.
  • Formwork. Set out to match the footprint of the patio, alfresco roof or entertaining area exactly.
  • Reinforcement. Mesh or reo through the slab for a stable, crack-resistant surface.
  • The pour. Plain or Geostone exposed aggregate blend.
  • The finish. Broom finish for plain concrete, or washed back for exposed aggregate so it’s slip-resistant underfoot when wet, which matters more outdoors than almost anywhere else.
  • Sealing. Exposed aggregate areas get sealed once cured.

Where we’ve poured it

Alfresco and outdoor slabs are one of the jobs we get asked for most, including a completed alfresco area finished in exposed aggregate, and a Kinross spa pad finished the same way so the whole outdoor space reads as one job rather than a patchwork of different pours.

What drives the price

As a Perth market guide, plain outdoor slabs generally sit around ~$70-$90/m2, exposed aggregate around ~$100-$150/m2. Alfresco areas vary more in shape than a straightforward driveway, so the exact number depends on the footprint, any steps or level changes, and how much access there is for the pour. We measure every job on site before quoting.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can you match the alfresco finish to our existing driveway or entry?

Yes, if you've had exposed aggregate poured elsewhere on the property, we can match the same Geostone blend so the alfresco ties in rather than looking like a separate job.

Do you pour under an existing patio or alfresco roof?

Yes, as long as there's reasonable access for us to get equipment and materials in. Tell us what's already up when you call and we'll talk through access at the quote.

What finish works best for an outdoor entertaining area?

Exposed aggregate is popular for alfresco areas because it's slip-resistant when wet and doesn't show wear the way a plain trowelled finish can. Plain concrete is also an option if you're after a simpler, budget finish.

How much does an alfresco slab cost?

As a Perth market guide, plain finishes generally run ~$70-$90/m2 and exposed aggregate ~$100-$150/m2. Alfresco areas vary a lot in size and shape, so we measure on site before quoting.
