Finishes
What is exposed aggregate concrete and why is it so popular in Perth?
Exposed aggregate is a concrete finish where the top layer of cement paste is washed or ground back to reveal the stone aggregate underneath, giving a textured, speckled look instead of a flat grey surface. We pour blends from all the major suppliers, Geostone and Holcim included, so you can pick the colour that suits your home rather than being locked to one range. It's popular in Perth because it handles sun exposure well, offers good grip when wet, and stays durable and low maintenance for years.
Can you match aggregate colours or existing concrete surfaces?
We pour exposed aggregate blends from all the major suppliers, Geostone and Holcim included, and we can talk through options if you're trying to match an existing driveway or extend a current surface. Getting an exact match on an older, weathered slab isn't always possible, since concrete changes colour with age and sun exposure. We'll always give you an honest read on what's achievable before you commit to a job.
How do I look after new exposed aggregate concrete?
Sealing the surface after it's fully cured helps protect the aggregate from staining and makes it easier to keep clean, and we can advise on timing and products for your job. Regular cleaning, a hose down or light pressure wash every so often, stops dirt and grime building up in the textured surface. Beyond that, exposed aggregate is a genuinely low maintenance finish, it's built to handle daily use without much fuss.
Timing
How long before I can walk or drive on new concrete?
You can usually walk on new concrete after 24 to 48 hours, once the surface has firmed up enough to handle foot traffic. Driving on it, including parking a car on a new driveway, generally needs to wait around 7 days. Full strength takes about 28 days to cure completely, so we recommend going easy on heavy loads or equipment until then.
General
Do you take on small or urgent jobs, including weekends?
Yes. We handle everything from small shed and spa pads through to full driveways, and we don't turn work away just because it's tight on time. We've completed genuine last-minute jobs, including an emergency Sunday pour, because our clients needed it done and we made it happen. If your timing is urgent, call us and we'll tell you straight up what's realistic.
Preparation
Do I need council approval for a new driveway or crossover in Perth?
Most Perth metro councils require an application or permit for a new driveway crossover, especially where it meets the verge or road, and rules vary between local government areas. We can talk you through what your specific council usually asks for based on jobs we've done in the area, but you should always confirm current requirements with your own council before work starts. We won't pour a crossover that isn't going to pass inspection.
What prep work goes into a concrete slab or pad?
A proper job starts with a site cut to get the ground level and clear of debris, followed by compaction so the base won't shift or settle later. From there we set up formwork to define the edges and shape, then lay reinforcement mesh to add strength before any concrete goes down. Skipping any of these steps is where cracking and movement problems usually come from later on, so we don't cut corners on prep even if it adds time to the job.
Cost
How do I get a price for my concrete job?
Every job gets a free measure and quote, there's no set price list because driveways, pads and slabs all differ in size, access and finish. Call us on 0476 722 330 and we'll arrange a time to come out, measure up, and give you a straight, fair price with no pressure to book in on the spot.
What does exposed aggregate concrete cost in Perth?
As a general Perth market guide, exposed aggregate typically runs from around $100 to $150 per square metre, while plain concrete starts from around $70 per square metre. These are market guide figures, not our published prices, since the real cost depends on site access, prep work, size and finish. Every job we quote is measured individually so you get an accurate price for your actual driveway or slab, not a generic estimate.
